Ancient sculpture: Shaping marble

How did the ancient sculptors chisel marble? How did they transfer it from the quarry? What types of marble did they prefer? How sophisticated were their tools and how did they bring their creations to life? The sculptures of the Acropolis Museum are hiding many secrets of the ancient marble sculpting and the students are to discover them with the help of the archaeologists of the Museum and numerous visual means.

The program is created and carried out by the Department of Educational Programs of the Acropolis Museum.

Number of participants Limited to 50 students per school and per school year.
Schools abroad Foreign schools and Greek schools located abroad can make a reservation by sending an email at least one month prior to the planned visit, to [email protected]. The programs can be offered either in Greek or English.
